Raju is a firefighter. He works at the fire station in Rajshahi. He wears a helmet, thick boots and a special coat that protects him from heat.
When the alarm bell rings, Raju and his team run to the fire engine. They have to be ready within one minute. The engine carries long ladders, water hoses and oxygen masks. Raju drives the engine through the busy streets while the siren sounds.
Last month a fire broke out in a shop near the market. Thick smoke was coming out of the windows. Raju put on his mask and went inside. He found an old man trapped on the first floor. Raju carried him down the ladder to safety. Then his team put out the fire with their hoses.
The work of a firefighter is dangerous. Raju has been burnt twice. But he says, "I am not afraid. Saving a life is the best reward for me."
We should always keep the fire service number handy and never play with fire.

রাজু একজন দমকলকর্মী। তিনি রাজশাহীর দমকল স্টেশনে কাজ করেন। তিনি হেলমেট, মোটা বুট আর তাপ থেকে রক্ষা করে এমন বিশেষ কোট পরেন।
সতর্কঘণ্টা বাজলেই রাজু ও তাঁর দল দমকল গাড়ির দিকে ছোটেন। এক মিনিটের মধ্যেই তাঁদের প্রস্তুত হতে হয়। গাড়িতে থাকে লম্বা মই, পানির পাইপ ও অক্সিজেন মাস্ক। সাইরেন বাজিয়ে রাজু ব্যস্ত রাস্তা দিয়ে গাড়ি চালান।
গত মাসে বাজারের কাছে একটি দোকানে আগুন লাগে। জানালা দিয়ে ঘন ধোঁয়া বেরোচ্ছিল। রাজু মাস্ক পরে ভেতরে ঢোকেন। দোতলায় আটকে পড়া এক বৃদ্ধকে তিনি খুঁজে পান। রাজু তাঁকে মই বেয়ে নিরাপদে নামিয়ে আনেন। এরপর তাঁর দল পাইপ দিয়ে আগুন নিভিয়ে ফেলে।
দমকলকর্মীর কাজ বিপজ্জনক। রাজু দুবার পুড়ে গেছেন। কিন্তু তিনি বলেন, "আমি ভয় পাই না। একটি জীবন বাঁচানোই আমার সবচেয়ে বড় পুরস্কার।"
আমাদের সবসময় দমকল বাহিনীর নম্বর হাতের কাছে রাখা উচিত এবং আগুন নিয়ে কখনো খেলা করা উচিত নয়।
