The Wind and the Sun

The wind and the sun were having an argument about who was stronger than the other. 'I am the most powerful!' said the wind. 'No, I am the most powerful!' said the sun. 'I can blow trees to the ground!' said the wind. 'I can push ships across the ocean. I can make tornadoes!' 'Is that right?' replied the sun. Just then, they saw a man walking along the road in his winter jacket. 'Let's have a contest to see who is more powerful,' said the wind. 'He who can remove the man's jacket first will be the winner.' The sun agreed. The wind started first. He blew a gust of cold wind at the man. The man kept shivering and zipped up his jacket. 'Brrr! What a cold and windy day!' It started raining. The wind blew even harder and turned the rain into a storm. 'Well, look at that! There's a heavy storm!' said the man. The wind blew its strongest gust towards the man, but the man's jacket stayed on. He zipped the jacket higher to cover his nose. 'Oh! This is impossible,' said the wind. He stopped blowing. 'My turn!' said the sun. First, the sun was shining enough to stop the rain and storm. The man unzipped his jacket. Then the sun pulled the clouds apart and gently shone down on the man. Suddenly, it felt like a beautiful sunny day. 'Wow. The weather is strange around here!' said the man. The sun gently wiggled its fingers and increased the temperature. 'What strange weather it is! Now, it feels like a hot summer!' the man said as he began to sweat. 'Oh, it's so hot!' He removed his jacket and headed to a nearby tree. He took a rest for a while under the shade of the tallest tree. 'I have made the man remove his jaket. I have won!' said the sun.

বাতাস আর সূর্যের মধ্যে তর্ক চলছিল, কে কার চেয়ে শক্তিশালী। 'আমিই সবচেয়ে শক্তিশালী!' বলল বাতাস। 'না, আমিই সবচেয়ে শক্তিশালী!' বলল সূর্য। 'আমি গাছ উপড়ে ফেলতে পারি!' বলল বাতাস। 'আমি সমুদ্রের ওপর দিয়ে জাহাজ ঠেলে নিতে পারি। আমি টর্নেডো বানাতে পারি!' 'তাই নাকি?' জবাব দিল সূর্য। ঠিক তখনই তারা দেখল, শীতের জ্যাকেট পরে এক লোক রাস্তা দিয়ে হেঁটে যাচ্ছে। 'চলো একটা প্রতিযোগিতা হোক, কে বেশি শক্তিশালী দেখা যাক,' বলল বাতাস। 'যে আগে লোকটির জ্যাকেট খোলাতে পারবে, সেই জিতবে।' সূর্য রাজি হলো। বাতাস প্রথমে শুরু করল। সে লোকটির দিকে এক ঝাপটা ঠান্ডা বাতাস বইয়ে দিল। লোকটি কাঁপতে কাঁপতে জ্যাকেটের চেন টেনে দিল। 'ব্রর! কী ঠান্ডা আর ঝোড়ো দিন!' বৃষ্টি শুরু হলো। বাতাস আরও জোরে বইল এবং বৃষ্টিকে ঝড়ে পরিণত করল। 'আরে, দেখো! ভীষণ ঝড় উঠেছে!' বলল লোকটি। বাতাস তার সবচেয়ে জোরালো ঝাপটা দিল, কিন্তু লোকটির জ্যাকেট গায়েই রইল। সে চেন আরও উপরে টেনে নাক ঢেকে নিল। 'ওহ! এটা অসম্ভব,' বলল বাতাস। সে বওয়া থামিয়ে দিল। 'এবার আমার পালা!' বলল সূর্য। প্রথমে সূর্য এমনভাবে আলো ছড়াল যাতে বৃষ্টি ও ঝড় থেমে যায়। লোকটি জ্যাকেটের চেন খুলল। তারপর সূর্য মেঘ সরিয়ে দিয়ে লোকটির ওপর মৃদু আলো ফেলল। হঠাৎ যেন এক সুন্দর রোদেলা দিন হয়ে উঠল। 'বাহ। এখানকার আবহাওয়া তো অদ্ভুত!' বলল লোকটি। সূর্য আলতো করে আঙুল নাড়িয়ে তাপমাত্রা বাড়িয়ে দিল। 'কী অদ্ভুত আবহাওয়া! এখন তো মনে হচ্ছে ভরা গ্রীষ্ম!' ঘামতে ঘামতে বলল লোকটি। 'উফ, কী গরম!' সে জ্যাকেট খুলে ফেলে কাছের একটি গাছের দিকে গেল। সবচেয়ে উঁচু গাছটির ছায়ায় সে কিছুক্ষণ বিশ্রাম নিল। 'আমি লোকটিকে জ্যাকেট খোলাতে পেরেছি। আমিই জিতেছি!' বলল সূর্য।
