Jasimuddin was a great Bengali poet. He is known as the 'Palli Kabi' or Rural Poet. He was born on 1 January 1903 in Tambulkhana village in Faridpur. His father, Ansaruddin Mollah, was a school teacher. His mother loved folk songs and stories and inspired him from his childhood.
He spent his early life in the village. He listened to the songs and stories of common people and learned about their simple life and culture. He was a good student. He studied at the University of Calcutta and completed his higher education in Bengali. After that he worked as a teacher. He also worked as a researcher of folk literature.
Jasimuddin travelled to many villages and collected thousands of folk songs and stories because he wanted to protect the rich culture of Bangladesh. He wrote many poems and books. His writings describe village life, nature, love and human feelings. His language is very simple and easy to understand. His famous works are Nakshi Kanthar Math, Sojan Badiar Ghat and Kabar. The poem Kabar is very popular among students.
He received many awards for his works including the Ekushey Padak and the Independence Day Award. People of all ages love his writings. He died in Dhaka in March 1976. He is still remembered today for his love for rural Bangladesh and its people.

জসীমউদ্দীন ছিলেন একজন মহান বাঙালি কবি। তিনি 'পল্লীকবি' নামে পরিচিত। তিনি ১৯০৩ সালের ১ জানুয়ারি ফরিদপুরের তাম্বুলখানা গ্রামে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। তাঁর পিতা আনসারউদ্দীন মোল্লা ছিলেন একজন স্কুলশিক্ষক। তাঁর মা লোকগান ও গল্প ভালোবাসতেন এবং শৈশব থেকেই তাঁকে অনুপ্রাণিত করতেন।
তিনি গ্রামেই শৈশব কাটান। সাধারণ মানুষের গান ও গল্প শুনতেন এবং তাদের সহজ-সরল জীবন ও সংস্কৃতি সম্পর্কে জানতেন। তিনি ছিলেন ভালো ছাত্র। কলকাতা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে পড়ে বাংলা বিষয়ে উচ্চশিক্ষা সম্পন্ন করেন। এরপর তিনি শিক্ষকতা পেশায় যুক্ত হন। লোকসাহিত্যের গবেষক হিসেবেও কাজ করেন।
জসীমউদ্দীন বহু গ্রামে ঘুরে হাজার হাজার লোকগান ও গল্প সংগ্রহ করেন, কারণ তিনি বাংলাদেশের সমৃদ্ধ সংস্কৃতি রক্ষা করতে চেয়েছিলেন। তিনি বহু কবিতা ও বই লিখেছেন। তাঁর লেখায় গ্রামীণ জীবন, প্রকৃতি, ভালোবাসা ও মানুষের অনুভূতি ফুটে উঠেছে। তাঁর ভাষা খুবই সহজ ও বোধগম্য। তাঁর বিখ্যাত রচনা নকশী কাঁথার মাঠ, সোজন বাদিয়ার ঘাট ও কবর। কবর কবিতাটি শিক্ষার্থীদের কাছে খুবই জনপ্রিয়।
তাঁর সাহিত্যকর্মের জন্য তিনি একুশে পদক ও স্বাধীনতা পুরস্কারসহ বহু পুরস্কার লাভ করেন। সব বয়সের মানুষ তাঁর লেখা ভালোবাসে। তিনি ১৯৭৬ সালের মার্চ মাসে ঢাকায় মৃত্যুবরণ করেন। গ্রামীণ বাংলাদেশ ও তার মানুষের প্রতি ভালোবাসার জন্য তিনি আজও স্মরণীয়।
