The Cap-seller and the Monkeys

It was a hot summer day. A man was passing through a village. He sold caps to the villagers. He walked for miles and felt very tired. He sat under a big tree to take rest. He put his basket of caps beside him. Then he fell asleep. There were monkeys in the tree. The monkeys saw the caps in the basket. They became curious. They came down from the tree and took away the caps. After some time the man woke up. He found that there was no cap in the basket. He was surprised. He looked for the caps. Then he heard some sound above his head. He looked up. He could not believe his eyes! The monkeys were wearing the caps. The cap-seller became very worried. He did not know what to do. Suddenly he remembered that monkeys like to imitate. So he took off his own cap and threw it on the ground. The monkeys saw it. They also threw their caps on the ground. The cap-seller did not miss the chance. He at once collected the caps from the ground. Then he quickly left the place.

এটি ছিল গ্রীষ্মের এক উত্তপ্ত দিন। এক লোক গ্রামের ভেতর দিয়ে যাচ্ছিল। সে গ্রামবাসীর কাছে টুপি বিক্রি করত। মাইলের পর মাইল হেঁটে সে খুব ক্লান্ত হয়ে পড়ল। বিশ্রাম নেওয়ার জন্য একটি বড় গাছের নিচে বসল। টুপির ঝুড়িটি পাশে রাখল। তারপর সে ঘুমিয়ে পড়ল। সেই গাছে অনেক বানর ছিল। বানরগুলো ঝুড়িতে টুপি দেখতে পেল। তারা কৌতূহলী হয়ে উঠল। গাছ থেকে নেমে এসে টুপিগুলো নিয়ে গেল। কিছুক্ষণ পর লোকটি জেগে উঠল। সে দেখল ঝুড়িতে কোনো টুপি নেই। সে অবাক হলো। টুপিগুলো খুঁজতে লাগল। তখন মাথার ওপরে শব্দ শুনতে পেল। ওপরের দিকে তাকাল। নিজের চোখকে বিশ্বাস করতে পারল না — বানরগুলো টুপি পরে আছে! টুপিওয়ালা খুব চিন্তিত হয়ে পড়ল। কী করবে বুঝতে পারছিল না। হঠাৎ তার মনে পড়ল, বানর অনুকরণ করতে ভালোবাসে। তাই সে নিজের টুপিটি খুলে মাটিতে ছুড়ে ফেলল। বানরগুলো তা দেখল এবং তারাও তাদের টুপি মাটিতে ছুড়ে ফেলল। টুপিওয়ালা সুযোগ হাতছাড়া করল না। সঙ্গে সঙ্গে মাটি থেকে টুপিগুলো সংগ্রহ করল, তারপর দ্রুত জায়গাটি ছেড়ে চলে গেল।
