Once there was a lion in a forest. It was big and strong. One day it was sleeping. A mouse was playing nearby. Suddenly the mouse got into the nose of the lion. The lion woke up and caught the mouse. "You little mouse! How dare you disturb me? I will kill you," said the lion. The mouse was afraid and begged for its life. "Sir, please let me go. I may be of help to you someday." The lion laughed and said, "You are so small. How can you help me?" But it let the mouse go.
Hunters lay traps to catch animals. Another day the lion was caught in a trap. It tried to get out, but could not. It roared and roared. The mouse heard the roar and came quickly. The mouse said, "Sir, please wait. I will help you." The mouse started to cut the rope of the trap with its sharp teeth. After some time the lion became free. It was very happy and said, "Thank you, little mouse. Now I know, even small ones can help big ones."

একদা এক বনে একটি সিংহ ছিল। সেটি ছিল বড় ও শক্তিশালী। একদিন সেটি ঘুমাচ্ছিল। কাছেই একটি ইঁদুর খেলা করছিল। হঠাৎ ইঁদুরটি সিংহের নাকের ভেতরে ঢুকে গেল। সিংহ জেগে উঠল এবং ইঁদুরটিকে ধরে ফেলল। সিংহ বলল, "ছোট্ট ইঁদুর! তোমার কত সাহস, আমাকে বিরক্ত করছ! আমি তোমাকে মেরে ফেলব।" ইঁদুরটি ভয় পেল এবং প্রাণভিক্ষা চাইল। "মহাশয়, অনুগ্রহ করে আমাকে ছেড়ে দিন। আমি হয়তো কোনোদিন আপনার কাজে আসব।" সিংহ হেসে বলল, "তুমি এত ছোট। তুমি কীভাবে আমাকে সাহায্য করবে?" তবু সে ইঁদুরটিকে ছেড়ে দিল।
